  • What is document translation?

First of all, it is important to understand that it is not enough to know two languages to translate a document.
Translation entails more than just converting the words in a text from one language into another. It also requires an analysis of the text and the characteristics of the target audience, as well as a morphologic and grammatical review of the translated text in the target language. Another key element of any successful translation is an analysis of the context of the text, to ensure the translated version delivers the same message.

  • How can I get a quote?

In order to request a quote for any of our services, please contact us using any of the following means:
Request for Quote Form (please provide as much detail as possible so that we may deliver a  precise quote), or by contacting us via telephone, e-mail or fax (we will take note of all information required for the quote).
You will receive our quote as quickly as possible.

  • What information should I provide to ask for a quote?

In order provide an accurate quote Babelia Traduções must have the following information:
    Translation languages (the source and target language - "from which language into which language");
    Volume of text to be translated – usually calculated as the number of words (you may initially provide an estimate, however an accurate quote will only be provided against an accurate word count);
The topic or subject matter of the translation – so that we may select the best translator for the job, considering the language combination and subject matter.

  • On average, how long will it take before I receive a quote?

Our quotes are sent within a maximum of 24 hours.
On average, however, we will return within an hour.
The period depends on the size of the document and the form in which it is submitted.

  • How can I be sure that the value of a quote is definite?

A quote becomes definite once the client confirms the deadline for delivery and accepts the quote, at which point it is binding and its terms complied with in full.
In cases where the client has ongoing work to be added during the course of the job, the price and deadline will be updated accordingly upon agreement with the client.

  • How long does it take to deliver a translation?

Numerous factors impact the delivery date of any Translation.

The more technical the text, the greater the need to consult dictionaries, specific glossaries (client glossaries) or other documents that will help the translator understand the text.  The complexity of the job will affect the time it takes to translate the document or documents.

  • What about document Revision?

The Revision of a document entails the grammatical and morphological analysis of a text provided by the client.
As is the case with translation, the work requires in-depth knowledge of the language and an awareness of the objectives of the client and,  also like a translation, the deadline for delivery will vary depending on the size of the text and its technical density.

  • What is Localisation?

The term localisation is used to describe the process of linguistic and cultural adaptation of an information product to a specific market.
Localisation is applied to the translation of Videogames, interactive manuals, and web pages, among others.

  • What is Linguistic Consultancy?

Linguistic consultancy is a service available for preparing (or improving) texts the client has or intends to write.
Once we understand the client’s ideas and objectives we draft texts in correct and proper Portuguese that translate these ideas into a client document.

  • What are computer assisted translation tools?

There is an ever growing need for the use of Computer Assisted Translation tools.
Computer aided translation is not automated translation, but rather an essential tool used by professional translators.
The text to translate is divided into segments, usually sentences, which the programme organises in order to simplify and speed up the translation process.
A translation memory is created from the translated content, which allows the information to be “recycled”, saving the translator time, and the client money, and also ensuring cohesiveness and consistency of  the texts produced.
These applications also have additional terminology tools that offer additional improvement to the translated text.

  • What is Automatic Translation?

Automatic translation is performed entirely by a machine, taking into account the systemisation of linguistic knowledge. It is a process with both advantages and disadvantages.
The advantages are speed and low cost, however the disadvantages are quite significant.
A machine translated text is rarely of acceptable quality and is often difficult to understand.  A machine generated translation will require a thorough and time consuming review by a qualified translator or editor.
In short, automated translations should only be used to get a general idea of the text and should not be accepted as a final product.
